The Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Banja Luka, as part of the SMARTWATER project, is organizing the third summer school on the topic “Adaptation to climate change of agricultural water management sector in Bosnia and Herzegovina”, from July 3 to 7, 2023 in Trebinje.

The Summer school opening ceremony, is scheduled for July 3, 2023, at the “SL Industry” hotel at 10 a.m.

This school is intended for students, and is scheduled according to the hybrid model. All school participants will be physically present in Trebinje, while guest lecturers will give their lectures live or via video link.

The goal of the event is to familiarize participants, especially early stage researchers (ESR), with the basics of climate change, the impact of drought on plant growth, plant irrigation needs, evapotranspiration, modernization of irrigation systems, meteorological data management systems, remote management, as well as basic aspects of economics in the field of irrigation.

Students will thus have the opportunity to learn different evapotranspiration calculation models that are used in plant irrigation, understand the basic concepts related to the physiology and genetics of drought stress, modernization in the field of irrigation, as well as the basics of economics in the management of water resources in agriculture. Likewise, new tools in the field of remote control will be presented through the project’s joint experimental study activities, together with the results obtained by field measurements. For the participants of this event, a visit and a tour of the most important agricultural producers in the area of Herzegovina are planned, which in their work use traditional and modern irrigation systems, as well as pumps, and waste water treatment plant.
