To reach the project goal of “promoting SMART agricultural WATER management in Bosnia and Herzegovina”, joint experimental studies are planned at several locations.
In order to plan the implementation of agro-technical measures during the vegetation of the investigated plant species (corn), such as irrigation and fertilization, the opening of the soil profile at the Aleksandrovac site was performed.
At the beginning, the geographical positioning of the location has been done (determination of altitude, latitude and longitude). After that, the profile was opened.
The general characteristics of the examined soil, like the number and arrangement of soil horizons, soil depth, type of parent substrate and morphological characteristics of the profile (color, texture, structure, etc.) were determined.
For the purpose of determining the physical properties of the soil at the Aleksandrovac site, soil samples were taken in an undisturbed state, in Kopecky cylinders, for three soil depths. The samples taken will be further tested in the laboratory.
For the purpose of determining the chemical properties of the soil, soil samples were taken in a disturbed state, with a sampling probe, for three soil depths. The samples taken will be further tested in the laboratory.
The results of testing the physical and chemical properties of the soil at the Aleksandrovac site aim at more detailed characterization of the soil, which belongs to distric cambisol, as well as planning agrotechnical measures at the tested site in the further steps of the experiment.
Defining experimental area soil feature is the first real step towards implementing smarter water management techniques in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Stay tuned!
