The SMARTWATER project was part of the program of the IX National Congress on Irrigation and Drainage (IX CNRD), held at the Beja Polytechnic Institute, under the theme “Irrigation Sustainability – Challenges and Opportunities”. The IX CNRD focused on the four Es (Efficiency, Energy, Economy and Ecology).
The oral presentation entitled SMARTWATER – Technologies for the management and efficient use of water in a sustainable and eco-efficient context in irrigation – addressed the sustainable management of water in Agriculture, namely through the creation of professional networks in the area of smart irrigation and the use of intelligent technologies, in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
During the three days of the Congress, more than 140 people from different research and education institutions and companies, related to the irrigation sector, were present. The lectures and oral or poster communications focused on sessions namely Irrigation, Efficiency and Innovation; Irrigation and Energy; Irrigation and Economics; and Irrigation and Ecology.
The IX National Congress on Irrigation and Drainage took place from 18 to 20 October 2022 in Beja, Portugal. The sustainable and efficient management of water in agriculture was the central theme of the communications. This Congress was organized by the following Portuguese institutions COTR (Irrigation Technology and Operating Centre), IPB (Polytechnic Institute of Beja), DGADR (Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development), DRAA (Regional Direction of Agriculture and Fisheries of Alentejo, FENAREG (Portuguese National Irrigators Federation), EDIA (Alqueva Development and Infrastructure Company, S.A.), SCAP-SEER (Specialized Section of Agricultural Engineering of the Portuguese Society of Agricultural Sciences), APDEA – (Portuguese Association of Agricultural Economics) and APRH (Portuguese Water Resources Association).
