The University of Sarajevo (UNSA) is the largest and oldest university in Bosnia and Herzegovina (B&H). Its founding in 1949 accelerated the general social and cultural progress of B&H, simultaneously following the path of European humanist tradition of Humboldtian University, continuously keeping in mind to connect research and education, thus ennobling the B&H academic community. UNSA is an organization that is carrying out the noble mission of educating, creative and internationally competent staff in all areas of interest for Bosnia and Herzegovina through teaching and research and remains determined to continue to be the leader in higher education in Bosnia and Herzegovina in terms of quality of its teaching and research, the number of students and faculty members. The University currently has 2,582 employees, 1,306 as an academic staff engaged in 522 study programmes (185 master and 93 doctoral), with more than 600 students and staff in exchange programmes.

The UNSA actively participates in numerous projects, such as HORIZON 2020, TEMPUS, FP7, Erasmus Mundus, CEEPUS, Mevlana, Fulbright, DAAD, and others.

Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences

The Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences of the University of Sarajevo is the oldest secular higher education institution in Bosnia and Herzegovina, it was established on March 21, 1940.

Thanks to the achieved results, and not to its longevity, the Faculty today is the most eminent higher education and scientific research institution in the fields of agriculture and food technologies within Bosnia and Herzegovina. Through education of agricultural and food technology experts and the results of the scientific work, the Faculty intends to maintain an important influence in creating and realizing all activities related to economically and sustainable production of quality food and sustainable management of agrobiological natural resources.
The Bologna system of studying at the Faculty was introduced in 2005/2006 and is carried out according to the 3 + 2 + 3 scheme.

The Faculty participates in numerous programs such as HORIZON 2020, TEMPUS, FP7, Erasmus Mundus, CEEPUS, Mevlana, Fulbright, DAAD etc. which enable students and academic staff a unique experience of visiting different countries in the world and acquiring new experiences and skills. In addition, the Faculty actively implements numerous national and international projects, with the ongoing projects “BUGI” – Western Balkans Urban Agriculture Initiative and “LANDS” – Next Destination Balkans: Agricultural Landscapes Development.

Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences also has experience in national funded projects by State, Federal and Cantonal ministries responsible for education and science as well as internationally funded projects such as HORIZON 2020, TEMPUS, FP, WUS, IPA, Erasmus, HERD/Norway, USAID, SIDA/Sweden, FAO, COST, DEZA/Switzerland and GTZ/Germany.
